Frequently asked questions.

It is the sole responsibility of the customer to abide by all State and Federal firearm laws when making a purchase.

Colorado Residents - You will be contacted within 2 business days after your order with an ETA on your order fulfillment. We will schedule a time to complete the firearm background check form(s). The background check and transfer must occur on site in Windsor, CO. Purchase of a firearm does not guarantee you will receive the firearm. You must complete an ATF form 4473 and pass a State of Colorado background in order to receive the firearm. Once approval has been received from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation AND the 3-day waiting period (72 consecutive hours) has passed, you will need to re-confirm your 4473 form answers on site before the firearm is transferred. All background checks and FFL transfers are an additional $30, on top of the firearm purchase. Multiple firearms may be purchased and transferred at the same time (Restrictions Apply) in accordance with Federal and State regulations. Please confirm the estimated transfer fees before your purchase. If you do not pass the background check and wish to cancel your order, the transfer fee and a 20% re-stocking fee will apply.

Right of Refusal

Guns by James LLC retains the right to refuse a firearm transfer for any reason at any time. If a transfer is refused, you will receive a full refund of payment for the firearm purchase.

Refunds and Returns

Orders that are cancelled within 24 hours, will receive a full refund, minus any unrecoverable transaction processing fees. Orders that are cancelled after an item has been shipped or is otherwise non-returnable to the supplier, will receive a 75% refund.

Can firearms be shipped to my home?

No, firearms purchased online cannot be shipped directly to a home. They must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms Dealer (FFL) in your area. If you do not already have a local FFL dealer you work with, we can locate and contact one for you.

What are the age requirements to purchase a firearm?

Colorado residents must be 21 years or older to purchase any firearm. Beginning July 1st, 2026 Colorado residents must also be 21 to purchase any type of ammunition. Age requirements for the purchase of firearms and ammunition vary in other states. Please refer to your state and local government agencies for current age related purchase information.

Can I buy a firearm if I live in a different state?

Yes. Transferring firearms across state lines is allowed, but is heavily regulated. It typically requires an FFL dealer in both the shipping and receiving states. Most firearm shipments require two day shipping per federal regulations. NOTE: out of state orders may not require sales tax to be paid for e-commerce transactions.

Do you offer NFA items?

NFA items, such as suppressors and Short Barreled Rifles (SBR’s), require a separate application process and are subject to additional regulations. We do not currently offer NFA items but are looking to expand into that market soon. Please contact us if you are looking for a specific NFA item.
